OMD soundcheck, meet n greet and VIP goodies!

In a recent recording session, I tested a few mics. I sang a the same chorus through each one and we listened back in rapid fire succession. The Neumann U87 wins for my voice. You'll hear the results soon, I hope!

My friend Russel Lee plays drums for a band called Under The Flood.  He asked me to remix a song called Miracle from their latest album, Alive In The Fire.  I applied the Rock Anthem to Fast, Hard, Techno converter plugin and voila!  I present it here for your aural consumption.

It has been entirely too long since my last post and a lot has been happening.  Firstly, let me explain whats going on with Facebook and such.  

You may or may not know that I read a LOT of music business blogs and am generally obsessed with the topic.  One of my favorites (and I pretty much take his word as gospel) is Andrew Dubber.  A year ago he started a "let's give Myspace one year to shape up or have a mass exodus" campaign.  His complete thoughts can be seen HERE.

My general feeling is the only people still populating Myspace are musicians.  The argument that Myspace still shows up well in Google searches and therefore still relevant is also no good for me.  That may work for Gaga and U2, not so much for me. When was the last time ANY of you logged in to Myspace?  Exactly.  Nice knowing you.

Which brings me to Facebook.  I HATE the fact that you can't have a Facebook PAGE without having a PROFILE.  It's confusing and sloppy to maintain both, especially when I'm the only band member AND it's a fictional character.  Additionally,  Facebook is clamping down on some rules.  They enforced a rule saying profiles could no longer host Reverbnation's fabulous My Band plug-in (which is now called Band Profile on one's page).  Other musician-friendly services were going away as well, so I basically thought while I'm at it, it's time to trim the Facebook fat as well.   So the profile is gone.  Many apologies.  I didn't "unfriend" anyone specifically, I still love you all.

Moving right along, I recently rejoined the cult of Apple.  My glorious 27" iMac is quite the beauty and now, three months in, I feel fairly comfortable with all things Mac OS.  These learning curves always kill comfy artistic flow, but it's getting back to normal. On top of that, I also recently had major updates to the software I use for music creation (Reason/Record).  I'm also feeling pretty good about having my right brain wrapped around it, so we should have new things soon.

...A few rock gigs, a couple of remixes for other bands and there went summer.

Yes, folks, the 3rd single is here and it's called Heart Over Mind.  Originally a country hit in 1961 by Ray Price.  While I've replaced the gentle western swing with hard pounding disco beats, the song remains the same.   I have quite an affinity for vintage country music, and Ray Price is an easy favorite for me.  For the liner note readers here, it was written by Mel Tillis.  Click on the music tab above to get your very own copy!
